There'll be a different vibe in Port Moody's Old Town Centre this weekend - a veritable feast to appease the senses.
ArtsConnect, the Tri-Cities' regional arts council, is hosting its 14th annual ArtWalk that will feature not only the work of more than 60 local artists in 22 venues but this year will also include performers, activities and street food.
Helen Daniels, who is accommodating four ArtWalk artists in her Gallery Bistro - a new business she recently bought with her husband Rainer - said Clarke Street will be festooned with art in the trees and colour ribbons that will flow above the traffic. "It'll really be something to see," she said.
Designated as one of the city's centennial events, ArtWalk will officially kick off on Friday with a public opening reception at the Old Mill Boathouse (2715 Esplanade) at 6:30 p.m.
On Saturday, starting at noon in the Queen Street Plaza, there will be R&B tunes from Etienne Siew and a dance by Dancing 4 A Change. At 2 p.m., Lyle Povah will lead an all-ages drumming circle with 300 drums, which will be repeated at 4 p.m.
And on Sunday, also at the Queen Street Plaza main stage, jazz musician Craig Townsend will start the day and will be followed by The Cosmic Wink at 3:15 p.m., and Second Storey Theatre at 4 p.m. Tatiana Speed will close ArtWalk with her funky blend.
Other ArtWalk activities include a book signing, kids' treasure hunt and arts and crafts workshops.
Best of all, the festival grounds have changed this year to make the event more central and walkable/cyclable, from Elgin Street to the Old Mill Boathouse at Rocky Point Park (in the past, the venues were scattered throughout the city and participants had to use vehicles to get around).
