ARTS BRIEFS: Former Disney artist shows work at Port Moody Library

A former Disney artist inspired by illustrations in Dr. Seuss books and other children's literature will have her multi-media work on the walls of the Port Moody Public Library next month.

A former Disney artist inspired by illustrations in Dr. Seuss books and other children's literature will have her multi-media work on the walls of the Port Moody Public Library next month.

Port Moody resident Patti Munro, a classical animation program teacher at the Vancouver Film School, will show her acrylic, oil, and pen and ink subjects - some of which will include tissue paper, found objects, modeling compound, vintage scarves, jewelry and toys.

Street performers wanting to busk in Port Moody can apply to the city for a spot.

A number of cvic spaces are open in the City of the Arts, each with defined times: Queen Street Plaza (two hours); Port Moody parks (two hours); Port Moody city hall (outside, one hour); and Newport Village (with approval by Newport Village businesses).

Emerging and professional can showcase their skills including: musicians, dancers, actors, jugglers, magicians and sidewalk chalk art, circus and theatrical performers.

Interested candidates can send an application form as well as a CD/DVD or YouTube/MySpace link that includes performance samples - plus the $25 permit fee - to Devon Jain, Port Moody's cultural services manager. Call 604-469-4689.

A mixed media art exhibition by Claudia Stewart opened last week at a Port Moody eatery.

Outbound Flights, a show that highlights female friends, doors and crows, can be seen until April 12 at the Gallery Bistro (2411 Clarke St.).

Students who are residents of B.C. and are attending a full-time fine arts studies program have until April 30 to apply for a BC Arts Council scholarship worth up to $6,000.
