GALA TALENT

A number of Tri-City singers and dancers will be in a gala for the Coquitlam-based Backstage Youth Performers' Society on Saturday.

A total of 16 students from the Tri-City Dance Centre (Matisse Maitland, Rebecca Gombar, Kimberley Turnbull, Marisa Letteri, Nathan Sartore, Ilia Dergousoff, Hailey Kragelj and Alexis Tucker) and Encore Dance Academy (Brittany Bishop, Raquel Newton, Isabella Oram, Megan Rota, Nasiv Sall, Melissa Swatez, Tyra Watson and Amanda Wormald) - as well as 14-year-old Coquitlam pianist Mariya Orlenko and KTL hip hop dancer Kimiko Roberts - will be part of A Night of Stars on Feb. 22 at the Massey Theatre in New Westminster.

A silent auction will be held and bids can be placed online at http://www.32auctions.com/BYPSGala1; the final bidding will happen at the gala. For tickets, visit byps.org.

BANNER CONTEST

Do you have art, photos or illustrations that showcase Port Coquitlam's people, history, landmarks or natural surroundings?

If so, you can enter your work into a city contest to have it highlighted on street banners this year.

Staff want suitable images to be sent digitally by Feb. 28. To apply, visit portcoquitlam.ca/leighsquare (under Get Involved - Forms).

Judging will take place by the community - in person and online - from March 3 to 14, and a volunteer panel will shortlist 10 designs. The winners will be announced in April. Call 604-927-8400 to learn more.
