A contemporary music teacher at Terry Fox secondary showed off his national award to students and staff at the Port Coquitlam high school on Monday.
Earlier this month, Steve Sainas clinched the 2015 MusiCounts Teacher of the Year accolade for his Rock School, a program that helps students learn about performing and recording music.
As part of his prize, Sainas scooped $10,000 for Rock School as well as another $10,000 for himself plus a seat for him and a guest at the Juno Awards show in Hamilton, Ont., which happened last weekend.
In a press release, Allan Reid, president and CEO of CARAS/The Juno Awards and MusiCounts, said the 28-year teacher "represents all the qualities of a music teacher" that led to the launch of the award a decade ago.
