Nov. 28 to Dec. 2: SD43 presents MetFest, the annual one-act play festival. Different plays each night with adjudication by professional actor and director Michael Fera. Plays are at Heritage Woods secondary at 7 p.m.

Dec. 1: Jill Barber: An Intimate Holiday Special, at the Evergreen Cultural Centre at 8 p.m. Tickets at 604-927-6555 or evergreenculturalcentre.ca.

Dec. 2: Susan Vigneux and Don Kellett of Stringz Aloud offer up a mix of musical styles from swing and jazz to traditional tunes on guitar, mandolin and steel guitar at the Gathering Place at Leigh Square's Crossroads Coffeehouse. Doors open at 7 p.m. with open stage from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. and the feature performer at 9 p.m.

Dec. 3: Light up the Square: A Lantern Affair presented by Place des Arts, Mackin House Museum and Gare de Fraser Mills, is from 4:30 to 7:30 p.m. Visit www.placedesarts.ca.

Dec. 3: Dogwood Songsters present their free Christmas concert with refreshments from 2 to 2:45 p.m. at the Poirier Library (575 Poirier St.).

Dec. 3: The Coquitlam Chorale, with director Justin Maller and pianist Lorna Yeates, presents Sing for Joy, a collection of seasonal classics, at 7:30 p.m. and Dec. 4 at 2 p.m. at the Evergreen Cultural Centre. Dec. 9: Douglas College partners with the multi-faith and multicultural Universal Gospel Choir to raise funds for the school's Uganda Project, which gives students a chance to travel abroad and learn while contributing to relief agencies in their field of study, in the Laura C. Muir Performing Arts Theatre at the New Westminster Campus (700 Royal Ave.). Doors open at 6:30 p.m. and the concert starts at 7:30 p.m. Tickets are $18/$25 at www.masseytheatre.com.

Dec. 15: Get into the Christmas spirit at Centennial secondary's first annual Christmas Jazz Cabaret, complete with a turkey dinner prepared by the school's culinary arts program. The evening starts at 6:30 p.m. Tickets are $40 or $280 for a table of eight. Seating is limited so book early. Money raised supports the bands' and choirs' spring music tours.
