Two Coquitlam singers will appear in an English opera double bill next month in Vancouver.
Baritone Riley McMitchell - a graduate of Terry Fox secondary in Port Coquitlam and currently a teacher at Lord Baden-Powell elementary in Coquitlam - will join soprano Sevan Kochkarian for the Opera Mariposa production of The Telephone, a comedy by Gian Carlo Menotti that runs at the Marpole United Church (1296 West 67th Ave.).
The one-act opera will be presented alongside a concert of English arias.
The Telephone marks McMitchell's second collaboration with Opera Mariposa; it will be the debut for Kochkarian, a Centennial secondary grad.
Tickets at $22/$18 are available at the door.
SNAPPED UP
Seniors with two Coquitlam centres will show their photography talents at an exhibit next weekend.
The Dogwood and Glen Pine pavilion members will have at least 130 matted photos and cards available for sale.
And portrait photography will be open to the public - by donation - next Saturday and Sunday, from 9 a.m. to 4 p.m. at the Poirier community centre (630 Poirier St.).

Don Portelance, a retired art teacher at Coquitlam's Centennial secondary, will show his paintings in a new exhibit in Fort Langley.

Tri-City cultural groups staging a regional project have until July 30 to apply for money from Metro Vancouver.
Up to $10,000 is available to organizations to support research, creation and production, among other things.
