An author who penned a book last year about her mother's early years as a British home child will speak on Thursday at Coquitlam Public Library.
Pat Skidmore will be at the Poirier branch on May 8 from 6:30 to 8:15 p.m. to talk about her tome Marjorie, Too Afraid to Cry.

SHIBLEY SCENES
Photos and paintings featuring scenes from the Kootenays, Okanagan and Lower Mainland are on display this month at the Port Moody Public Library.
The pictures are by Darrell Shibley, who moved from the east Kootenays to the west coast in 1982.

BULLFIGHT
A Spanish film based on the Snow White fairy tale - and set in Seville in the 1920s - will be screened on Friday in Port Moody.

SUMMER CAMPS
Auditions will be held this month for Tri-City teens wanting to be part of a triple threat boot camp.
The Coquitlam-based Theatrix society will have an open call for Hairspray Jr. at Riverside secondary (2215 Reeve St., Port Coquitlam) on May 15 and/or May 20.
Successful candidates will work on their singing, dancing and acting skills with choreographer Nicole Roberge, director Deb Solberg and voice/acting coach Krista Wallace, from July 21 to 25 at the Evergreen Cultural Centre.
It will conclude with a public show on July 26.
Meanwhile, the early-bird deadline is May 25 to sign up for Theatrix's Lunchbox Theatre Summer Camp, for kids aged six to 12. Visit theatrixyouththeatre.com.
ART CASH
Five Tri-City students have earned scholarships from the B.C. Arts Council.
Nicole Ward, Tami (Yu-Yu) Lin, Kyu Won Lee and Malcolm Shier won $6,000 each while Sydney Wong received $5,000 toward their post-secondary art studies.
