Jack and Jill, Little Miss Muffet and Puss in Boots are among the three dozen characters who will grace a Port Moody stage this week for a special Christmas production.

A total of 21 children from the Tri-Cities, Maple Ridge and Burnaby - between the ages of six and 12 - will perform in the original Theatrix Youth Theatre adaptation of Babes in Toyland.

Based on the story of how Mother Goose and Nursery Rhyme Land save Christmas, the show is the brainchild of artistic director Deb Solberg and musician Yurgen Ileander, better known to family audiences as Mr. I. "I just basically re-created the whole thing," she said, "and the kids are absolutely adorable."

Choreographed by Ashley Binette, the 90-minute program is open to the public on Friday and Saturday at 7 p.m. at the Inlet Theatre (100 Newport Dr., Port Moody), with a 1 p.m. matinee on Saturday.

Tickets at $16/$12 are available at the door (one hour before showtime) or via theatrixyoutheatre.com.

TRASH ART

Artists who want to see their designs on a Port Moody waste truck have until Feb. 16, 2015, to apply to the city.

Professional artists or artist teams are being asked to submit their work for a vehicle wrap. In 2010 and 2011, the city decorated four automated trucks with colourful vinyl wraps and, since then, the municipality has bought a fifth collection truck that needs a creative touch. Visit portmoody.ca.

SINGER

Coquitlam's Devon Dalgarno has made it through to the final round of the X-mas Factor singing competition, held at the Vancouver Christmas Market on Saturday.

The grand prize winner of the annual talent show will get a recording package through Studio Cloud.
