Calling teen poets

"I think that I shall never see/A poem lovely as a tree" wrote Joyce Kilmer more than 100 years ago. And now, Port Moody wants to commemorate the city's centenary with poetic verse about its history and heritage.

"I think that I shall never see/A poem lovely as a tree" wrote Joyce Kilmer more than 100 years ago.

And now, Port Moody wants to commemorate the city's centenary with poetic verse about its history and heritage.

The municipality is asking PoMo teens - aged 13 to 18 - to submit their best two poems about the city's past. The winner of the Centennial Youth Poet Laureate contest will receive $500 and have a poem included in a time capsule.

Candidates can apply online by Jan. 31, 2013, at library.portmoody.ca/youthpoet.

For more information, call the PoMo Public Library at 604-469-4577 or email youth services librarian Maryn Ashdown at [email protected].
