This event is cancelled as Leigh Square is now closed by the city of Port Coquitlam.

Indigenous artist Christine MacKenzie is the guest at the next Art Focus Artists Association demo in Port Coquitlam.

The self-taught sculptor, drawer and painter will be at The Outlet at Leigh Square (behind PoCo city hall) March 25 from 7 to 9 p.m. to talk about her creative process and her desire to capture aspects of the Kwakiutl First Nation culture before it disappears.

MacKenzie’s mother is a descendant of Kwakiutl royalty from the double-headed Eagle and Killer Whale clan.

She was mentored by Haida artist Anastasia Hendry and has worked in many school districts, including SD43, as well as youth and family organizations.

For her PoCo demonstration, which is open to the public and is free to attend, she’ll paint a northwest coast animal using traditional form line.
