A concert to raise funds for 16 musical theatre department students at Coquitlam's Gleneagle secondary will be held Sunday night.

Port Moody crooner, American Eagle Outfitters model and Mr. World Canada titleholder Frankie Cena will perform at the event, to be held at the Glenayre community centre (492 Glencoe Dr., Port Moody) from 5 to 9 p.m. with the barbecue catered by Pasta Polo.

Proceeds will go towards the students' trip to New York City, where they will see Broadway shows.

Tickets are $20 and include a burger (beef/veggie or jumbo hot dog), salad (garden or pasta) and either a beer or glass of wine.

The group will also host fundraisers next month including a garage sale and mushroom manure sale on Sept. 14, a pub night at Micky's in Coquitlam on Sept. 21 and a Zumba night at the Coquitlam high school on Oct. 18.

CAN YOU SING?

Tri-City residents wanting to showcase their vocal cords can join the Maple Leaf Singers, a chorus of more than 50 singers - of all ages - that performs in six-part harmony.

Practicing in Burnaby, the registered charity is especially interested in recruiting bass and tenor voices. Email Anne Baird at [email protected]. Visit mapleleafsingers.com.

XMAS TIME

Cards, photos, prints and assembled jewellery won't be accepted.

For artists new to the process, five original items should be entered, along with a registration form (visit placedesarts.ca/gallery/christmas-boutique.aspx).

The deadline to register is Sunday, Oct. 27.
