Colour dominates at new Leigh Square show by two abstract artists

After months of drab and dreary winter, step into the Leigh Square Community Arts Village for a riotous dose of colour showcased in exhibits by two artists with distinct personal styles.

Large-scale paintings by Nasser Ghaderi evoke a sense of spontaneity that defy the artist's formal training. With splashes, drizzles, drips and swirls of paint on canvas, Ghaderi focuses on experimentation while eschewing point of view in his abstract works.

By zeroing in on process and experimentation - not the final product - Ghaderi aims to turn his paintings into mirrors that reflect the viewers who stand in front of them by inviting them to actively create their own meanings.

Such involvement on the part of the viewer turns them into the creator and the paintings into dynamic, fluid pieces with a new identity each time they are viewed.

Also exhibiting is Aiden Fisher-Lang, whose pieces are inspired by castles, mountains, houses and the ocean, all of which peek through abstraction in his geometric canvases.

The moving shapes, letters and words Fisher-Lang sees in his subject matter are translated into unique prints that call to mind the environment's natural beauty.

Colour Explosion: New Abstract Works by Nasser Ghaderi and Aiden Fisher-Lang is at Leigh Square from March 28 to April 29. Visit portcoquitlam.ca/leighsquare for details.
