Family Christmas shows aplenty

If you're looking to treat the kids to a Christmas show before Santa Claus arrives, the Tri-Cities has three concerts to keep the young - and the young-at-heart - happy.

If you're looking to treat the kids to a Christmas show before Santa Claus arrives, the Tri-Cities has three concerts to keep the young - and the young-at-heart - happy.

Seventeen young Tri-City dancers are cast in Motus O's A Christmas Carol, now on stage at the Evergreen Cultural Centre (1205 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam) until Saturday. Among those who won parts in the Charles Dickens' classic tale include Niki Moshirfatemi, who plays the character of Tiny Tim against James Croker's Scrooge. Tickets at $39/$30/$15 are available by calling Evergreen at 604-927-6555.

On Sunday, the Blues Berries will have toes tapping with familiar seasonal songs - with a twist - such as I Want a Hippopotamus for Christmas, The Santa Claus Blues, Rockin' Round the Christmas Tree and Boogie Woogie Santa Claus. The four-piece ensemble will play Evergreen at 2 p.m. Tickets are $16/$12 through the box office.

And next week, 21 young actors - ranging in age from seven to 13 - will portray 35 characters in a musical adaption of A Christmas Carol.

The Theatrix production the Inlet Theatre in Port Moody, which runs Dec. 19, 20 and 21, was picked by artistic director Deb Solberg because "it's Christmas, a literary classic, an awesome way for kids to get to know it and it's super fun and relevant to the times," she said.

The cast has been in weekly rehearsals since September, with local entertainer Mr. I penning original tunes for the show including What's In the Past, How Can They Be Happy? and What Really Matters.

Tickets at $16/$12 are available through www.brownpapertickets.com or at the door.
