Rock 'n roll, country, folk, children's and multicultural music will be among the genres heard at Sunday's Canada Day party at Town Centre Park in Coquitlam.
According to a report released this week by Lori MacKay, general manager of parks, recreation and culture, "Coquitlam Celebrates Canada Day" is now the largest outdoor event held in the city, with some 40,000 revellers taking part last year.
And this year's event promises to be bigger with 149 community groups, artists and businesses joining in on the fun.
As well, the fete is expected to generate $63,000 in revenues for the city (including in-kind services) - an increase of 40% over last year, MacKay wrote.
Other program highlights include:
Civic tent: 1,000 cupcake give-away at 12:45 p.m.;
Green village: Learn how to be a friend to the environment;
Taste of Coquitlam: 16 vendors on site serving up, for example, Mexican, Thai, Italian, Russian, Korean and Persian grubs;
Cultural village: Music, dance, fashion shows, lion performances and martial arts demos by groups such as Canada Day newcomers the Tri-City Chinese Community Society and the Filipino Plaza Society;
and Youth and Sports villages: A reworked venue to include a volleyball and basketball tournament. Don't miss The Flowriders, who will show off their stunts.
"Coquitlam Celebrates Canada Day is the primary event produced by the city of Coquitlam that reinforces the message that we are the place for events excellence that celebrates active and diverse lifestyles, with much to offer our citizens," MacKay wrote in her report, which came before Coquitlam's council-in-committee on Monday.
