Focus on art teacher

An art and photography teacher at Port Coquitlam's Riverside secondary will have a new exhibit up in Port Moody.

The photographic art display, titled Abandoned Sublime, will be Kelly Selden's largest ever, with 40 12-by-12 inch prints hung at the Gallery Bistro (2411 Clarke St.). The opening reception for the show is Sunday from 2 to 4 p.m.

Selden said she used a new archival process of printing on aluminum panels, which catches the light of her abstract imagery. As a result, the prints have up to four times more than image stability than traditional photo papers.

Selden was invited to exhibit her work by bistro owners Helen and Rainer Daniels after the couple saw her most recent show at the Ferry Building Gallery in West Vancouver.

Abandoned Sublime, she wrote, was inspired by her travels to Sweden, Prague and around B.C. It narrows the lens on "subjects that are overlooked, discarded or thought of as mundane." She hopes their transformation into abstract compositions will make the viewer to look twice.

Selden has previously shown her work at Coquitlam's Evergreen Cultural Centre and Place des Arts as well as at Leigh Square Community Arts Village in PoCo.
