A Coquitlam resident will mark two anniversaries with The Maple Leaf Singers at a special concert next weekend.

Wilson Fowlie joined the 60-piece choir 20 years ago as a bass voice and, 10 years later, added music director to his résumé.

"Music is like air. I need it in my life and I think a lot of people do, whether or not they realize it," he said in a news release. "Music has an incredibly positive effect on people. Singing physically makes you feel good; singing for others makes you feel great. Our audiences clearly enjoy it. And I get to direct a group of people who revel in it - I'm happy."

The group's 44th annual spring show, titled The Night of Nights, takes place Saturday at 8 p.m. and Sunday at 2 p.m. at the Massey Theatre (736 Eighth Ave., New Westminster) and will include jazz, Latin, inspirational and musical theatre songs as well as Beatles' tunes.

Tickets at $20/$18 are available by calling 604-584-5928 or 604-520-3337. For more information, visit www.maple-leaf-singers.com.
