The Leigh Square Community Arts Village and SFU Philosophers Café will host a discussion on the theme of feminism next week as part of the arts centre's curated art exhibit, The F Word: Exploring Feminism in the 21st Century.

The Leigh Square Community Arts Village and SFU Philosophers Café will host a discussion on the theme of feminism next week as part of the arts centre's curated art exhibit, The F Word: Exploring Feminism in the 21st Century.

Featured panelists include: Carol Metz-Murray, executive director of Tri-City Transitions; Catherine Murray, chair of Women's Studies at SFU; Bernardine Fox, a graduate of Emily Carr whose work focuses on the complexities of self-expression; and, Ilze Bebris, a North Vancouver-based artist who has exhibited nationally and internationally.

The group will explore several questions, moderated by philosophy professor Graham Forst, and will open the discussion to the public.

The discussion takes place at Leigh Square March 19 at 7 p.m. Admission is free.

ARTS GRANT AVAILABLE

Funding is available for artists and community groups working on projects and events with an arts or culture focus in Port Coquitlam.

The money comes from PoCo's Community Cultural Development Investment Program for the spring, and the deadline is April 30. New applicants and previous recipients are encouraged to attend an information session on March 26 at 8 p.m. at the Leigh Square Community Arts Village to learn about the grant program, eligibility and application requirements.

The groups or artists must be based in or have a broader mandate that includes PoCo.

Maximum funding is 50% per project up to $2,500 and $5,000 per year to one group. For more info and to download an application visit www.portcoquitlam.ca.

The CCD Investment Program was set up to enhance cultural development in PoCo. The next general intake for the grant will be in the fall, with a deadline of Sept. 30.

YOUTH ARTS FESTIVAL

Port Moody is looking for young Tri-City artists to take part in its first annual Youth Arts Festival.

The three-day festival is set to take place July 27 to 29 and will showcase a variety of performing and visual arts by local youth, as well as offering art workshops and seminars.

"This is an opportunity for youth to express themselves," said Coun. Gerry Nuttall in a release, who chairs the city's arts and culture committee. "We have a multitude of artistic talents in our youth that we want to showcase."

Festival organizers are looking for project proposals from artists aged 13 to 18 in the following areas: collaborative arts; dance arts; dramatic arts; literary arts; music arts; and visual arts.

The deadline for applications is April 15, with final reviews, auditions and a selection of projects to take place on May 5 and 6.
