Locals get Jessie nod

A Port Coquitlam native has been nominated for a Jessie Richardson Theatre Award for outstanding actor in a lead role.

A Port Coquitlam native has been nominated for a Jessie Richardson Theatre Award for outstanding actor in a lead role.

Ashley Wright is shortlisted in the category for his portrayal of Falstaff in the Merry Wives of Windsor, which ran at last summer's Bard on the Beach.

Wright, a PoCo high grad who will be appearing in the Toronto stage production of Les Miserables this fall, is up against Andrew McNee (Boeing-Boeing); Andrew Wheeler (Clybourne Park); Gaelan Beatty (Xanadu); and Scott Bellis (King John).

"I do feel very honoured to have been recognized by the Jessie committee," Wright told The Tri-City News. "I absolutely loved doing the play, as well as King John, and feel blessed to have been a part of Bard On The Beach last summer."

Also up for a Jessie are PoCo resident Mat Ollson for significant achievement (small theatre) in The Zombie Syndrome, and Port Moody'sJordan Watkins for significant achievement in Cranked for Green Thumb Theatre.
