Two Grade 1 pipe bands with strong links to the Tri-Cities placed in the top 10 at last weekend's world championships in Glasgow, Scotland.
The SFU Pipe Band took seventh spot - a drop from last year when it reaped fourth position - while the Port Coquitlam-based Dowco Triumph Street earned 10th place - the same rank as in 2013.
The 68th annual contest was won for the fourth year in a row by Field Marshal Montgomery of Northern Ireland.
Meanwhile, SFU drum major Jason Paguio defended his title in the adult grade while SFU's junior Robert Malcolm Memorial band earned fifth prize for the novice juvenile category.
Among the Grade 1 SFU pipers from the Tri-Cities are: Alastair Lee, Danielle Millar and Daryl Techy; drummers Reid Maxwell, Gavin MacRae and Duncan Millar; bass section Kim Mercado and MacKenzie Webster; and administrator Rob MacNeil, who also instructs the RMM pipe bands.
And the local Dowco players are: pipe major David Hilder, his pipe sergeant wife, Shaunna, and their son, Liam; Gordon McRae, Fraser Yorston, Alex Galloway, Cameron Reid, Jessica Reid, Scott Wood, Tyler Wood, Jocelyn Marsh and Shelena Marsh.
