Place des Arts will host two open houses next week in an effort to spark the public's interest in its Coquitlam programs.
Ignite... An Affair With Art will be held next Thursday to coincide with the opening of Kim Vergil and Alan Maples' new exhibits at the Maillardville facility (1120 Brunette Ave.).
The free event is geared for adults only - a glass of wine will be served to visitors - and runs from 7 to 9 p.m, with exhibition tours, artist talks and class demonstrations.
Meanwhile, on Saturday, Sept. 14 from 2 to 4 p.m., Place des Arts will host its Family open house to entice younger artists, musicians and dancers to sign up.
Children can try out instruments and hear entertainer Mr. I (Yurgen Ilaender), who teaches the Musical Rainbow class for kids; drumming teacher Eien Hunter-Ishikawa; and piano teachers David Rogers and Nina Horvath, who will offer demos along with Saskia Jetten (printmaking), Alex Angvinland (printing and painting) and Kim McKenna (fibre arts).
Also during the Family open house, Place des Arts will unveil its 40th anniversary social fabric project, a commemorative tapestry woven by the community over the past year.
Both open houses are free to the public and include door prizes. And anyone who registers for a class or workshop during the two events will receive up to $10 off the registration fee.
