Coquitlam's Jennifer Gillis, 17, a Grade 11 student at Gleneagle secondary school, will see CF-18 fighter jets and Snowbirds fly over her after she sings the national anthem - in French and English - at Parliament Hill on Canada Day for the country's 146th birthday.

Gillis, who starred in her high school production of Thoroughly Modern Millie this year and made the Top 7 in last fall's CBC-TV reality show Over The Rainbow, was picked by Canadian Heritage Minister James Moore, the Conservative MP for Port Moody-Westwood-Port Coquitlam, to sing O Canada on July 1 after he heard her version of the anthem at local events such as the Queen's Jubilee Medal ceremonies.

Gillis will be on the stage at around noon (9 a.m. PST).

Also performing that day in Ottawa will be Mission's Carly Rae Jepson, Marie-Mai, Metric, Terri Clark, Karim Ouellet and astronaut Chris Hadfield, who will play with Ed Robertson of the Barenaked Ladies.
