A world-famous composer, music arranger, symphonic conductor and teacher who now calls Port Moody home will be honoured at a gala concert on Friday.

And one of Ryszard Wrzaskala's former students is on the program: tenor Jon-Paul Walden, the executive director of Coquitlam's Evergreen Cultural Centre.

Supported by the Consulate of Poland, the recital at the Magee Theatre in Vancouver will celebrate 60 years of Wrzaskala's work.

Besides Walden, it will also feature the Vancouver Orchestra Club, pianist Terri Wu, soprano Laryssa Divakova and tenor Andrew Belozerov.

Walden studied piano as a child with Wrzaskala and they recently re-connected for the show. The pair is now recording a CD, with Walden on vocals.

For tickets at $30 to the gala concert, call 604-307-7171 or visit www.orchestraclub.com.
