A 17-year-old musician will perform an oboe solo as part of the Young At Heart classical music concert at Coquitlam's Evergreen Cultural Centre on Saturday.

Teresa Lin, who attends Semiahmoo secondary and is taught by Roger Cole, the principal oboist with the Vancouver Symphony Orchestra, will join the June 8 show put on by the Pacific Symphonic Wind Ensemble (PSWE) under the direction of Evan Mitchell, conductor of the Kitchener-Waterloo Symphony.

Lin will perform Autum Solioquy by James Barnes for solo oboe and wind ensemble - "a truly lovely piece," said PSWE spokesperson and flautist Robert Neville.

And other youth-related pieces to be played that night include Children's March by Percy Grainger, Hobbits from John de Meij's Lord of the Rings Symphony and the Roman Carnival Overture of Hector Berlioz.

PSWE is a 50-piece wind ensemble that focuses on music written within the last 100 years. Its base is at the Evergreen Cultural Centre and often features guest conductors.

Tickets at $20/$15/$12 are available through Evergreen (1205 Pinetree Way) by calling 604-927-6555 or visiting www.evergreenculturalcentre.ca.
