A former piano student and junior teacher at Coquitlam's Place des Arts will return to the Maillardville centre on Thursday for a fundraiser.
Barry Tan will play with his colleagues from the University of Victoria - violinists Derrick Lee and Shijin Kim, violist Calvin Yang and cellist Shiun Kim - solo piano and chamber works by Mozart, McIntyre, Chopin and Dvorak.
Admission to the 7 p.m. show at Place des Arts (1120 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam) is by donation. Proceeds will be used toward Tan's tuition and expenses at McGill University, where he is part of the master's of music program.
ARTISTS' HANDS
A new art exhibit featuring the work 10 Port Moody-based artists will open tomorrow (Thursday).
The reception for the display, titled Hands that Shape our Community, a project conceived and co-ordinated by Tracy Riddell, will take place from 6:30 to 8:30 p.m. at the Gallery Bistro (2411 Clarke St., Port Moody). The artists and the photographers who captured them at work will be in attendance.
SPRING SONGS
Sit back and enjoy a spring concert on Sunday with the Dogwood Songsters.
The Coquitlam choir will perform "well-known and loved songs" at 1:30 p.m. at the Dogwood Pavilion (624 Poirier St.). Tickets at $5 are available at the front desk. Refreshments will be available.
LAST DEMO
A Port Coquitlam art association will wrap up its last public lecture of the season with a demonstration by Maple Ridge artist Win Seaton.
Hosted by Art Focus, the event is free and starts at 7 p.m. in the Outlet at the Leigh Square Community Arts Village (behind PoCo city hall).
