Musicians with the Simon Fraser University Pipe Band, which includes about a dozen Tri-City residents, scored high notes at the Victoria Highland Games this month.

The band placed first in all four of its events, beating out the L.A. Scotts from California - the top pipe band in the U.S. - which was taking part in the contest for the first time.

Coquitlam piper Alastair Lee won first in the professional piping category while Grant Maxwell of Surrey and Anmore's Gavin MacRae tied for first in professional side drumming.

The Robert Malcolm Memorial II Pipe Band also won the Grade 2 Band competition while its Grade 4 band finished in second place.

The band's next competition is at the Bellingham Highland Games on June 7.
