Follow Shrek, Princess Fiona and Donkey - as well as several young Tri-City triple threats - in the first West Coast production of Shrek the Musical.
The large-scale show by Align Entertainment opens Friday at the Michael J. Fox Theatre in Burnaby, with part of the proceeds being donated to the Stop A Bully Foundation.
And there will be a matinee on Family Day, Feb. 10, where kids can meet the characters, get their face painted, enter contests and snack on hot dogs grilled up by local firefighters.
Brent Hughes, musical director of Dr. Charles Best secondary in Coquitlam who is also conducting the musical, said Align Entertainment formed last year with the aim of presenting high calibre family-friendly musicals to the public.
Best of all, the company is led by Tri-City folk including Hughes; Chad Matchette, owner and artistic director of Coquitlam's Lindbjerg Academy of Performing Arts; Patti Volk, a former director of the Royal City Musical Theatre; and Lindbjerg dance instructor Melissa Assalone.
