Soft Focus for next Crossroads' show

The fall season for the Crossroads coffeehouse started last week with Vancouver singer/songwriter Greg Drummond and continues next Friday with music from Soft Focus.

The fall season for the Crossroads coffeehouse started last week with Vancouver singer/songwriter Greg Drummond and continues next Friday with music from Soft Focus.

Musicians Marian Buechert and Steve Britten will play from their repertoire, which includes traditional folk ballads, pop tunes from the 1950s and 60s and musical theatre songs.

The coffeehouse opens at 7 p.m. at the Gathering Place (1100-2253 Leigh Sq.) in Port Coquitlam, with an open stage from 7:30 to 8:45 p.m. and the guest act at 9 p.m.

Admission is $5 and proceeds benefit the Crossroads Hospice Society.

Other performances this year are from Dark Willow (Oct. 14); The Honeyflowers (Oct. 28); Willy Blizzard (Nov. 4); Bugsy Jive (Nov. 18); and Stringz Aloud (Dec. 2).

ART FOCUS

Artist Jack Turpin will be the demonstrating acrylic painting at the Art Focus Artists' Association meeting next Wednesday.

The group will meet Sept. 28 at 7 p.m. at The Outlet in the Leigh Square Community Arts Village in Port Coquitlam (behind city hall).

Beginning, intermediate and experienced artists are welcome to attend the sessions, which run Wednesdays from 7 to 9 p.m.

What does it mean to live in the City of the Arts?

Port Moody staff are looking for photos to publish in the city's 2012 calendar that depict the municipality's theme. Whether it be festivals, public art or scenic views, civic staff want seasonal snaps to show off the city's creative spirit.

Applicants are asked to drop off their entries by Oct. 11 to PoMo city hall (100 Newport Dr.). CDs can also be mailed to: Communications department, PO Box 36, 100 Newport Dr., Port Moody, V3H 3E1.

WINTER FAIR

Artists, vendors and artisans from across Metro Vancouver have until Oct. 7 to submit their applications for the fourth annual juried winter artisans' fair in Port Coquitlam.

This year's event, which runs Nov. 26 and 27, will coincide with the weekend Christmas celebrations at Leigh Square Community Arts Village that includes the lighting of the Christmas tree, holiday caroling and an appearance by Santa.

Artists of all ages and levels wanting to take up the paint brush at classes at Coquitlam's Evergreen Cultural Centre this fall have until Sunday to sign up.
