Starting Monday, Tri-City students are off for half the month for spring break.

Luckily, there are plenty of arts camps, events and activities around town to keep their hands and minds busy.

Coquitlam's Evergreen Cultural Centre (1205 Pinetree Way) hosts a spring break bonanza beginning with Monster Theatre's production of The Little Prince on Tuesday, March 10.

The Afro-Brazilian Carnaval shakes out next Wednesday while The Purple Pirate in Message in a Bottle concludes the festival on Thursday. Each show has two performances daily at 11 a.m. and 7 p.m. Tickets start at $12 or $27 for all three shows.

Meanwhile, ECC offers four spring break camps: Kids on Stage (ages six to 11); The Worlds of Transformation (ages nine to 11); The Worlds of Space (ages six to eight); and The Worlds of the Graphic (ages nine to 11). Call 604-927-6552 or visit evergreenculturalcentre.ca.

Over at Terry Fox Theatre (1260 Riverwood Gate) in Port Coquitlam, kids aged seven to 11 can sign up for an all-day camp, running March 9 to 13. Instructed by Brad Tones and Jessica Nelson of PLAY (Professional Live Arts for Youth), participants can create and perform their own version of a classic tale. The cost is $150 via terryfoxtheatre.org.

The city of PoCo has two arts camps: Once Upon a Mattress for musical theatre students aged seven to 12 and Clay All Ways for kids aged five to 10. Visit experienceit.ca to sign up.

Also in PoCo, the Terry Fox Library (2470 Mary Hill Rd.) welcomes magician Matthew Johnson on March 9 at 11 a.m. And on March 11, children can build towers and other buildings at the Lego Club at 3:30 p.m. On March 12, teens can test their knowledge at a special quiz night, beginning at 7 p.m., and on Friday the 13th, there'll be a screening of The Boxtrolls at 1:30 p.m. while on Friday, March 20, teens are invited to a movie showing at 2 p.m.

At Place des Arts (1120 Brunette Ave., Coquitlam), a few spots are still open for students in grades 6 to 9 wanting to try out pottery, video game illustration art and jewellery design.

James Kemp has openings in his March 16 to 20 pottery intensive, which runs 9 a.m. to noon; during the same times, Stan Hunc will guide students through hand drawing and painting techniques used by professional gaming artists. And jeweller Amanda Maxwell hosts an afternoon workshop from March 9 to 13 to cover wire working, linking and stringing for bracelets and necklaces.

As well, spring break camp blocks are still available for students in grades 3 to 5. Call 604-664-1636 or visit placedesarts.ca to register.

And, in the City of the Arts, the Port Moody Arts Centre (2425 St. John's St.) has a number of week-long sessions - running full and half days - with PMAC faculty instructors for children aged six to 17.
