Young musicians who joined the Coquitlam Youth Orchestra last September will end their inaugural year with a concert this weekend.
Conductor and artistic director Reg Quiring said the 65-plus musicians in the junior and senior ensembles - ranging in age from 10 to 18 and hailing from the Tri-Cities, Maple Ridge, Surrey and Burnaby - "have really improved over the past year, are more comfortable playing as a group and have a better appreciation for the music."
And on Saturday, they will have a show at Coquitlam's Evergreen Cultural Centre (1205 Pinetree Way) at 1 p.m. to display their hard work.
The juniors will play arrangements from Beethoven's Egmont Overture, Tchaikovsky's Capriccio Italien, Haydn's Symphony No. 99 Minuet and Trio, the Harry Potter Suite and the Bach A-minor Concerto featuring concertmaster, Rachel Tuhten.
As well, the senior orchestra will handle Dvorak's Symphony No. 8, Mozart's Symphony No. 35, the Lord of the Rings Suite and the Lalo Cello Concerto featuring principal cellist Laura Chang.
