Tri-City actors play colonel, princess in 'Murder on the Orient Express'

Dovreshin MacRae plays Col. James Arbuthnot while Joyce Gillespie is the dowager Princess Natalya Dragomiroff in the dinner–theatre production that runs Sept. 8 to 24.

Two Tri-City actors are cast in Murder on the Orient Express, the fourth show in the 2022 season by Theatre in the Country (TIC).

Dovreshin MacRae plays Col. James Arbuthnot while Joyce Gillespie is the dowager Princess Natalya Dragomiroff in the dinner–theatre production that runs Sept. 8 to 24.

The updated script by Ken Ludwig was commissioned by the family of Agatha Christie to bring the tale to today’s audiences, said TIC artistic director Reg Parks in a news release.

Christie published Murder on the Orient Express as a novel in 1934 after being inspired by the Lindbergh kidnapping; the family paid a $50,000 ransom for their 20-month-old son, who was never returned.

The story was also based on a 1929 incident when the Orient Express train was caught in a blizzard in Turkey for six days.

The TIC shows take place at 5708 Glover Rd., Langley from Wednesdays to Saturdays at 7:30 p.m.

There is also a theatre-only matinee on Sept. 17 at 2 p.m.
