The Fair at the PNE is full of Tri-City talent this summer.
The two-week long festival in Vancouver opened on Aug. 16 with a show by Dal Richards, who is marking his 75th year on the PNE stage. In his band are Diane Lines of Port Moody and Jennifer Hayes of Coquitlam.The ensemble performed two night concerts last Thursday as well.
The previous day also saw two local teens on the PNE Star Showdown finals.
Port Moody triple threat Brianna Carniel, 14, delivered Taylor The Latte Boy while singer Emma Leblanc, 12, of Anmore, took on the pop hit Love Song last Wednesday.
Their performances at B.C.'s biggest talent show were witnessed by more than 500 spectators including Port Moody Mayor Mike Clay.
Clay was at last year's finals when Port Moody sensation Tyson Venegas, then 7, clinched the Showdown title, making him the youngest winner ever.
(Before his name was called, the Aspenwood elementary student was high-fived by his idol - Burnaby crooner Michael Buble, a previous Showdown winner, who also happened to be in the audience.)
Venegas returned to the Chevrolet Performance stage last Wednesday to belt out two songs as the judges deliberated who would be the top among the province's "best and brightest."
The first prize of $5,000 was presented to Surrey's Alyssa Gutierrez, 16, a student at Holy Cross regional secondary who covered Alicia Keys' If I Ain't Got You.
Neither Carniel nor Leblanc placed in the provincial competition.
