Two exhibit openings in Port Moody

The upcoming festive season will be in full swing tomorrow (Thursday) at the Port Moody Arts Centre when it opens two exhibits.

More than 50 original artworks will be available for bidding until Dec. 19 as part ofOne of a Kind. The pieces were donated - after a call to the community - to help raise money for the facility expansion into the Centennial Appleyard House.

Meanwhile, the Blackberry Artists' Society will launch its 17th annual Christmas Marketplace on Thursday. Members who run the PMAC gift shop will have visual arts, photography, jewellery, ceramics, textile arts, woodworking and gift cards for sale.

The marketplace is open until Dec. 23.

The opening reception for both displays is Thursday from 6 to 8 p.m. at PMAC (2425 St. John's St., Port Moody). Call 604-931-2008 or visit pomoarts.ca.

ARE YOU ANNIE?

If you're a spunky girl between the ages of 10 and 12, you could be in for the role of a lifetime.

The Royal City Musical Theatre is looking for young triple threats for play the part of Annie in the company's 25th anniversary production next year.

And auditions for Tri-City actors/singers/dancers wanting to portray the street-wise orphan will be held on Sunday, Nov. 17 in Port Coquitlam.

The casting call will start at 2 p.m. at Broadway Bound Studio (2701 Kingsway Ave.), across from the PoCo recreation complex.

Applicants are asked to bring sheet music and sing a Broadway show song; as well, candidates will be required to perform a dance so bring jazz shoes as well.

Directed by PoCo resident Valerie Easton, Annie will run at New Westminster's Massey Theatre from April 10 to 16, 2014.

SPOONFUL

Two Port Coquitlam actors are in the Arts Club Theatre production of Mary Poppins.

Robert Allan and Bobby Callahan are in the musical now showing at the Stanley Industrial Alliance Stage in Vancouver. Created by Disney and Cameron Mackintosh, the performance run ends Jan. 5, 2014. Visit artsclub.com.

ART SHOW

The 20th anniversary of Port Coquitlam's Art Focus Art Association will see 20 artists, displaying 85 pieces for the group's show and sale this weekend.

The milestone event - held during the city's 100th anniversary celebrations - will open with a reception and a speech by Mayor Greg Moore on Friday in The Outlet (behind PoCo city hall).

The fall show continues on Nov. 16 and 17 from 11 a.m. to 5 p.m.
