Models sporting garments as far back as the 1910s will be paraded down the catwalk this week to mark the city of Port Coquitlam's 100th year.
Wedding and prom dresses, Red Cross and air force uniforms, and suits and flapper dresses will be on display for Fashion Through the Decades, happening tomorrow (Thursday) and Saturday at the Wilson Centre in PoCo.
Organizer Thelka Wright said her committee was swamped with outfits that were donated or loaned for the show. When the notice went up to call for vintage clothing, "we got 125 pieces in the first three days," she said, adding, "Fashion is the kind of thing that can draw a crowd and people love vintage clothing.
"We're going to show a real microcosm of the decades."
Bruce Hansen, president of the Wilson Centre Seniors' Advisory Association, said the committee also got a large response for volunteer models. As a result, many had to be turned away.
For the two events, recent graduates from a beauty school have been recruited to apply makeup to the 24 female models (there are also eight male models). And there will be plenty of entertainment, Wright promises, with TV personality Norm Grohman emceeing.
Fashion Through the Decades is sold out for March 28; however, a limited number of tickets is available for the March 30 show at 7 p.m. that includes a dessert buffet. To purchase at $10, call 604-927-PLAY or visit experienceit.ca (bar code 107490). Attendees are encouraged to wear period clothing.
