JESSE TYLO

For Jesse Tylo, the world is his oyster.

Ask the Port Moody secondary student what he plans to do after graduation next year and he'll respond: "I want to be well known for my art and influence. I want to make a statement."

Tylo, 17, sees himself working primarily in Europe, combining his visual art with fashion design.

He's not quite sure how he'll get there but soft-spoken young man likes to dream big - and his talent and imagination are certainly evident.

For the Port Moody Youth Arts Festival, the Coquitlam resident will exhibit four pieces in the city hall galleria: ink and watercolour paintings of Audrey Hepburn and Kristen Stewart; a charcoal work titled Before The Ending Starts; and an acrylic self portrait.

Tylo got serious about his craft when he entered PMSS and took classes with instructor Judi Gardnner. His portraits attracted the attention of his classmates, who paid Tylo to interpret their images.

He left the school's international baccalaureate program to concentrate more on his studies and, since then, his art has been featured this year in the Emerging Talent show at Evergreen Cultural Centre as well as at the Garbage Fashion Show, organized by Heritage Woods secondary (Tylo made a piece out of McDonald's french fry containers).

As for his influences, Tylo cites everything from the Renaissance age to film director Tim Burton.
