Another 107 cases of COVID-19 have been reported in the Tri-Cities health delivery area over the past week, according to recent tallies released by the B.C. Centre for Disease Control.
Weekly reports lump the Tri-Cities into the Fraser North health delivery area together with Burnaby, New Westminster and Maple Ridge.
Between Jan. 1 and Sept. 3, a total of 890 cases have been reported in the region. That includes 178 cases reported in the Tri-Cities from Jan. 1 to July 31. Tri-City specific caseloads since Aug. 1 have not yet been reported.
The 107 new cases for Fraser North come amid an uptick in cases throughout the month of August. Cases over two-week reporting periods in Fraser North jumped from 44 between July 24 and Aug. 6 to nearly 200 throughout August and into September.
The uptick echoes trends across the province less than a week before the restart of school.
In a press conference Thursday, Dr. Bonnie Henry said the province was on “a precipice” as British Columbians maintain social contacts at roughly 65% of normal.
“This is something we are watching. This is an indicator of how well we’re doing… how many people I infect if I get sick,” she said.
It’s time, added Dr. Henry, for people to shrink their bubble, pause high-risk activities and avoid spending time with groups of people you don’t know.
