Accident downs Coq. hydro line

Coquitlam emergency services descended on Austin Avenue and Mariner Way Thursday afternoon after a power line was downed across the intersection.

Coquitlam emergency services descended on Austin Avenue and Mariner Way Thursday afternoon after a power line was downed across the intersection.

More than half a kilometre of energized line fell alongside Mundy Park between Chilko Drive and the Thrifty Foods on Austin Avenue, with a section of it landing on top of a delivery truck in the Thrifty Foods parking lot, according to Coquitlam fire chief Tony Delmonico.

Delmonico said it appeared that a boom truck working in the area accidentally struck the line, causing it to fall from several poles.

The line had been safely de-energized and removed from the intersection by late Thursday afternoon with no injuries reported.

Entrances to Mundy Park from Mariner Way were closed Thursday afternoon but were expected to be open later in the evening once BC Hydro crews had replaced the downed line.
