The Coquitlam Athletics won the 2022 BC senior little league provincial championship on home soil — their first since 2009.

The Coquitlam Athletics are off to nationals after reclaiming the B.C. senior little league crown for the first time in 13 years.

On home soil, the A's ran away with a 15-3 victory over New Westminster in the provincial championship game last Monday (July 4).

As a result, the green and gold have qualified to represent the province at the Canadian senior little league championship and will travel to Nova Scotia next Friday (July 15).

Coquitlam finished provincials at Blue Mountain Park undefeated, 3-0, en route to their first B.C. banner since 2009.

Jeremy Robson catapulted the A's offense with two homeruns.

Even more impressive, on defense, Coquitlam only gave up just seven runs in three games, outscoring their opponents 25-7.

Athletics manager Sandon Fraser tells the Tri-City News this was largely due to the team's pitching brass that kept their cool on the hill: Luc Dang, Jason Jang, Ethan Juul, Max Lochhead and Jaymes Parchment.

"We were confident going into the tournament because we had been working hard all season. As we settled in, our bats really came alive," he said.

"I am so proud of these boys. After two years without a regular baseball experience, they came together and were able to win the provincials with hard work and passion as a team."

There was no baseball season for Coquitlam the last two years as a result of restrictions surrounding the COVID-19 pandemic.

In 2019, the Athletics organization won the 13U and 14U provincial titles, and their 12U squad got to represent Canada at the Little League World Championships after winning nationals.

The senior A's will compete at nationals in Sydney, N.S., from July 16 to 23.

Their provincial results were as follows:

  • 15-3 win over New Westminster (final)
  • 4-2 win over Central Saanich
  • 6-2 win over New Westminster
