The event, billed as a Taking a Stand B.C., is part of a pre-election effort to convince candidates standing for election in the provincial vote May 14 to consider the importance of social housing.

Valerie O'Leary of the Homes for Good Society is helping to organize the event, which is expected to attract local politicians as well as members of groups promoting social housing in the Tri-Cities.

"We want to get the word out there," O'Leary said.
