Air quality advisory cancelled

Cooler temperatures, less smoke reduce risk

An air quality advisory that included the Tri-Cities issued last week has been cancelled by Metro Vancouver.
The advisory for the eastern parts of Metro Vancouver and the Fraser Valley had been in effect since July 28. It was cancelled on Wednesday when air quality improved because of cooler temperatures and smoke from wildfires not coming into the region, said a Metro Vancouver press release Wednesday morning.
The initial advisory issued last week was for ground-level ozone. On Monday, the regional district expanded the advisory to include fine particulate matter, which is airborne solid or liquid droplets small enough to penetrate indoors.
The warnings were a result of smoke from wildfires burning in Eurasia and Alaska as well as the bog fire in Richmond.
The regional district had been advising avoiding strenuous activities during mid-afternoon to early evening when ozone levels were at their highest.
