All shook up in Coquitlam at the Quake Cottage

Some Tri-City residents got a jolt of reality this week when they felt what a 8.0-magnitude earthquake would be like.

Some Tri-City residents got a jolt of reality this week when they felt what a 8.0-magnitude earthquake would be like.

The Quake Cottage simulator made a timely stop at Coquitlam Centre mall given the recent devastating shake in Nepal, which killed thousands of people and ruined homes and heritage structures.

Operators of the Quake Cottage asked participants to sign waiver forms before they rode the vehicle for 30 seconds.

It is on a tour of the Lower Mainland (Minoru Park, Richmond on Friday and Lynn Valley Village in North Vancouver on Saturday) but it was in the mall parking lot on Wednesday as part of the city's emergency preparedness fair.

Other organizations that took part in the event included Coquitlam Search and Rescue, St. John Ambulance, Red Cross and the Insurance Bureau of Canada the latter of which is sponsoring the Quake Cottage with FortisBC.
