Another $1.5 million into Coq. coffers

The city of Coquitlam will soon be reaching the $100-million mark as host of the Boulevard Casino.

The city of Coquitlam will soon be reaching the $100-million mark as host of the Boulevard Casino.

This week, the provincial government paid the municipality its 10% of net proceeds from the gambling venue for the period of July to September - a total of $1.59 million. The payout is about $100,000 down from the previous quarter.

Boulevard Casino - which will be rebranding itself as Hard Rock Casino Vancouver in December - has pulled in more than $92 million for the city since the United Boulevard facility opened in 2002. In turn, the city spends the revenue on major capital programs and projects for non-profit groups.

The next round of casino grants for community organizations is expected to be doled out by city council early next year.
