Coquitlam wrapped up 2012 with a million-dollar jackpot from the Boulevard Casino.

The last quarter of the year yielded $1.7 million for Coquitlam as host city to the United Boulevard gaming venue. The previous three quarters brought in $5.7 million, making the year-end total $7.5 million - slightly up from 2011.

Since Great Canadian Casino opened Boulevard in 2002, the city has collected $87 million as part of its 10% cut of profits.

Most of that money is spent on major capital projects; the city also puts 12.5% into a community fund for local non-profit groups.

Last fall, city council handed out more than $400,000 to non-profit community and sporting organizations in annual Spirit and Active grants.
