Arists to co-design a vision of Riverview with stakeholders

Riverview's next phase of community consultation will bring artists into the discussion so people can see what their vision of the 102-year-old site will look like.

Riverview's next phase of community consultation will bring artists into the discussion so people can see what their vision of the 102-year-old site will look like.

Codesign Group has been hired to work with residents and stakeholders in small group sessions Tuesday Sept. 23 and Saturday, Sept. 27 with the goal of identifying future uses for the property and then rating them to see what people prefer.

"It's a good way to conceptualize, and ask what are the pieces, it's better than looking at blocks," said BC Housing CEO Shayne Ramsay in describing the process.

Keep Riverview as mental health site

Participants will first brainstorm their ideas about "A Day in the Life" of Riverview and then work with artists in small group sessions of 20 minutes in duration to put those ideas on paper. Groups will then view and rate the artists' conceptions, a process Ramsay said will help identify some of the land use themes for the property, such as what buildings will be on site, and where open space, parks and other forms and structures will be on the property.

The artistic renderings will be put online and people who can't be at the open houses can still rate them. Information gathered will be put in a report and lead to another open house in the new year.

The meetings are as follows (choose one - preregistration is strongly encouraged but not required):

Tuesday, Sept. 23 at Douglas College, Coquitlam, 1250 Pinetree Way, Coquitlam; 4:30 sign up and open house; 4:45 "A Day in the Life" brainstorm, 5:30-7:30 artist sessions, 7:30-8 p.m. viewing and rating.

Saturday, Sept. 27 at Centennial Activity Centre, 570 Poirier St., Coquitlam (entrance off Winslow Avenue); 10 a.m., sign-up and open house; 10:15 a.m. "A Day in the Life" brainstorm, 11 a.m. - 1 p.m. artist sessions. 1 p.m.-1:30 p.m. viewing and rating.
