Attempted murder in Coquitlam leaves one with critical injuries

Coquitlam's Brookmere Park was the site of an attempted murder this morning (Aug. 5) that left one person in critical condition.

A man is in critical condition from an altercation that turned into an attempted murder in Coquitlam this morning (Aug. 5).

Mounties are now looking for witnesses to the incident in Brookmere Park in hopes of moving the investigation forward.

In a release, Coquitlam RCMP general investigation section team commander S/Sgt. Ed Yoshiyama explained police were called to the scene at around 9:15 a.m. today.

Reports came in of an altercation that started between "at least" two men in the Brookmere parking lot south of the sports field.

Yoshiyama said one victim was taken to hospital after he was found suffering from "critical and life-threatening injuries."

Officers are now investigating the case as an attempted murder.

It's not yet known, however, if the suspect and victim knew each other.

"We are still trying to determine the exact sequence of events leading up to the altercation," Yoshiyama told the Tri-City News.

Police are asking the public to come forward with eyewitness accounts and video, including dash cam, cell phone, CCTV, surveillance and general footage.

Brookmere Park is located one block east of the intersection of Austin Avenue and Westview Street.
