Coquitlam’s Little Leaguers will be getting their first taste of action at the Little League World Series a little sooner than they’d expected.

Inclement weather in Williamsport, Penn., Thursday afternoon forced several games to be postponed until Friday. That’s necessitated a juggling of schedules and venues to accommodate seven games in one day.

Canada’s opening game against Mexico will now be played at 2 p.m. PT, at Volunteer Stadium. The game had been scheduled for 3 p.m. PT. It’s unknown how the change may affect the TV broadcast of the game.

In a statement on Little League’s website, tournament director Patrick Wilson said the threat of further storms Thursday made it prudent to suspend play after just one game, in which the Caribbean team defeated Australia, 11-0, had been played.

“We feel it is in the best interests of all teams playing… to provide the teams with the opportunity to play with optimal field conditions,” he said.
