BC Hydro will be burning large slash piles along its right-of-way east of Plateau Boulevard for the next few days as part of clearing work for construction of the Lower Mainland Transmission Line.

The work is weather-dependent and is planned to start Thursday, April 24 and continue until Sunday or Monday.

Slash piles consist of branches, leaves, evergreen needles and other natural debris, which are gathered along the B.C. Hydro right-of-way.

"Controlled burning is the selected and safe option for removal," the Crown corporation said in a press release. "B.C. Hydr's Environmental Assessment Certificate for the project allows for the slash piles to be burned."

The contractor is subject to Ministry of Environment open burning smoke control regulations and must ensure proper air movement to minimize the impacts on people living in the area.
