BC Liberals in Port Moody-Coquitlam will choose their candidate next month to run in the upcoming provincial byelection.

Party members will make their decision on Friday, Feb. 17 for a contender to run against former Port Moody mayor Joe Trasolini, who was recently acclaimed by the BC NDP, and Christine Clark, who is representing the BC Conservatives.

To date, only one person has submitted their nomination papers with the BC Liberals - the party's riding president in Coquitlam-Maillardville, Dennis Marsden, who is a past Chamber of Commerce president and challenged Coquitlam-Maillardville NDP MLA Diane Thorne for her seat two years ago.

The deadline to file is Feb. 3, said Jehnifer Benoit, the BC Liberal's communications director.

A byelection is expected to be called by Premier Christy Clark by April 3 to replace Iain Black, who quit as MLA last October to take the CEO job with the Vancouver Board of Trade.
