The provincial riding of Port Moody-Coquitlam was the scene of an upset tonight as, with all ballots counted, NDP candidate Rick Glumac unseated BC Liberal incumbent Linda Reimer.
Glumac, a Port Moody city councillor, collected 10,542 votes (47% of votes cast) to Reimer's 9,122 votes (41%). Green candidate Don Barthel had 2,692 votes (12%).
Glumac spoke to supporters, saying, "It's about building a better British Columbia for all British Columbians, not just a few. And you can count on me to start working on that."
After he spoke, Reimer showed up and spoke to her opponent and NDP faithful, saying, "It was a hard-fought campaign and you did it."
She then presented Glumac with a Port Moody flag, explaining she received the flag after she was elected in 2013 and "it is only right that I return the flag to the new member from Port Moody-Coquitlam."
Reimer told The Tri-City News she is disappointed, saying: "I was hoping to be able to serve my constituents for a second term. Who knows what the future has to hold."
