The Port Moody Fire Rescue is reminding residents that the fire hazard warning is extreme and to be careful in local parks and trails.

The department recently announced restrictions that prohibits campfires, tiki torches, fireworks, firecrackers and barbecues in city parks that require charcoal, briquettes, or wood.

"Smoking is not permitted in our parks and trails at any time," said Fire Chief Remo Faedo in a press release. "But with the current extreme fire hazard conditions it's critical that people refrain from smoking in these vulnerable areas."

Port Moody has a four-tiered fire hazard rating system, which current conditions have elevated to extreme.

Faedo urges residents to be cautious with any potential fire hazard and vigilant hen discarding cigarettes to ensure they are extinguished properly.

"If you see or suspect a fire, call 911 immediately," he said.
