Bear activity leads to closure of Oliver Road in Coquitlam

Oliver Road at Minnekhada Park has been closed until further notice over safety concerns for people driving to the area to see bears.

Oliver Road at Minnekhada Park has been closed until further notice over safety concerns for people driving to the area to see bears.

Many bruins venture into the northeast Coquitlam neighbourhood, where numerous berry crops are in bloom this time of year.

This has led to an increase in the number of people visiting the area, many of who want to snap photos of the animals.

According to Bear Aware, when a bruin becomes to habituated to humans they often cannot be relocated and must be put down.
